Library

The Bukovina-Institut Library is a specialist academic library with a collection of approximately 25,000 volumes. In addition to its specialised focus on regional studies and literature relating to Bukovina, the collection provides an overview of the history and present-day situation of the regions of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe associated with historic Bukovina.

Archive of Documents and Media

The Archive for Documents and Media comprises the written records of the Institute and the Buchenlanddeutsche Landsmannschaft (Bukovina German Association), as well as relevant estates. The collection includes magazines and newspaper cuttings. An extensive collection of historical postcards and photographs, rare newspapers on microfilm, and audio and film material round off the collection.

Three-dimensional collection

Three-dimensional collection

The Bukowina-Institut’s collection comprises around 700 three-dimensional objects, which the Institute has acquired through purchase or received as gifts and bequests from former residents of Bukowina and the surrounding area.

Oral History

Collection of interviews

Since 2018, around 200 interviews with Christian Germans and German-speaking Jews have been conducted as part of various interview projects. The Institute intends to make these interviews available to researchers in future.

Digital Humanities

Digitalisation projects

The Bukowina-Institut has set itself the aim of safeguarding, preserving and making accessible archival collections – such as postcards and historical documents like newspapers – for future generations. In recent years, with the help of our partners and sponsors, we have been able to make a significant contribution towards this aim. We intend to continue driving forward further digitisation projects in the future.
